Pink Expressions “Defying The Odds” Foundation was established in 2018 as a nonprofit organization based out of Essex County, Virginia in memory of the late Delores T. Brooks, who was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer in September 2012. Her treatment consisted of: a left mastectomy surgery along with a combination of radiation and chemotherapy which caused her to lose her hair and body change as a result of treatments. In December 2013, she was diagnosed with two brain aneurysms that required emergency surgery. The surgery went well, however, 3 months later and another visit to the emergency room would be my mother’s last battle to fight as she lost her battle to Breast Cancer on April 24, 2014.
This was my family’s story and like so many families impacted by this disease, our mission is to offer direct services to cancer patients and their families through cancer treatment to relieve the burdens associated with daily life in the Northern Neck Middle Peninsula Regions of Virginia.
The organization host fundraiser events dedicated to creating a diverse supportive forum celebrating survivors and promoting health and wellness. Our Pink Carpet Event hosted in October is our major fundraiser event. With the help of community partners, the event expands each year and we have the opportunity to provide educational literature regarding early detection/screenings advocating regular checkups and self examinations that our attendees receive at the event. We are committed to being a beacon of light within the community providing direct services to cancer patients and their families.

Changed My Life
Where does one begin when you try to express your gratitude to an amazing group, Pink Expressions. I had no idea how much of impact they would be in life. When I walked in through the door and seen how much time, money and love that was put in to make sure every person that had been through or going through the Fight with Cancer brought tears to my eyes. They tried to make everyone feel Special and give them opportunity to experience joy and love without concerning with all the side effects of Cancer. Last year was my first time participating in this Awesome Organization’s Event but truly excited and great expectations for the future! To God Be The Glory!!
Amazing Support!
Last year was my first time participating in the Organization’s Cancer Survivors Takes Paris Event and I was able to talk and listen to other survivors story which made me feel that I am not alone in this fight. Every survivor’s story different. I felt supported and more open to share my diagnosis with others. The event was really nice and looking forward to the impact this organization will have within the community.

I want to thank the organization for allowing me the opportunity to participate in the Pink Carpet Event for the past two years. The event makes me happy because of the positive energy throughout the building giving me the POWER to FIGHT. I know God has got a blessing with my name on it. I draw strength from the other survivors because having a support system means so much when battling this disease. Miracles can happen and my belief in God reminds me by his stripes I am healed. This organization is awesome and I am blessed to have the opportunity to be showcased as I felt like a Queen supported and love by my friends and family that supported me at this wonderful event.
